Summary:

The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) will be responsible for oversight and coordination of the Survey phase of assigned projects, working with Project Managers, Department Managers, Field Personnel, and other Ascent staff, to achieve project goals. While the role is primarily an internal facing role, communication, and coordination with clients on project scope and execution will be necessary. In addition to project duties, the PLS will support various corporate initiatives, including the creation and upkeep of survey process, mentorship of junior survey staff, and be responsible for ensuring project data is processed, formatted, and stored per corporate data standards.

This role will have an expert understanding of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) and is expected to work in concert with other licensed professionals and provide an expert level of assistance with project needs.

The PLS is an employee with organizational and management skills and expert technical skills. This employee will be well versed in Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil3D, and ESRI ArcGIS. The PLS must also be well versed in field procedures, as they will help oversee all incoming field work, checking for completeness, accuracy, and quality.

Expected results in the role:

  • Plats and drawings are thoroughly QA/QC before they are certified and delivered to clients.

  • Ensure field packs are accurate, correct, and complete.

  • Ensure field data is complete, accurate, and processed correctly.

  • Ensure Ascent best practices are followed to get data onto ADM and SDE.

  • Ensure projects are completed on-time and under budget.

  • Pursue additional licensure to assist Ascent expanding our geographic reach and help provide redundancy in existing states.

  • Be willing to assist the team in any way possible to meet project deadlines.

Essential Duties: The duties listed below are essential to this position. However, other duties as assigned and not expressly listed below will also be required.

  • Expert Level QA/QC on documents going through certification.

  • Expert review of all post-processed field data.

  • Perform PLSS Sectionalized Boundary Resolution.

  • Assist junior staff members with problems.

  • Assist field crews with equipment issues.

  • Perform necessary research to ensure field packs and projects are done correctly and completely.

  • Certify plats and drawings, as appropriate per licensure.

  • Support creation and upkeep of survey process and procedure documentation.

Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of Trimble Survey Equipment, Trimble Business Center, and OPUS.
