Description

Sterile Processing Department

Full-time

72 hours bi-weekly

Shift Varies - 1st & 2nd

Includes every 4th weekend & holiday rotation

Disassembles, cleans, assembles and prepares surgical instrumentation and equipment for sterilization. Assists in tracking inventory, reviewing, recording and recovering charges through the facility's computer system.

Records information for infection control and participates in the performance improvement activities within the departments.

Processes sterilizer biological indicators and interprets results. Resposible for linen distribution and receiving.

Works in collaboration with the LPN Shift Supervisor, SPD Technicians and all departments to provide efficient and timely service to our clients.

May handle the SPD responsibilities of the morgue. May be asked to supervise the department on a shift-to-shift basis, consulting the LPN Shift Supervisor or SPD Department Manager as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred, but willing to train.

CST must be a graduate from accredited school with current certification through NBSTSA. CRCST must be certified through HSPA or CBSPD or must successfully complete Sterile Processing Technician course after 1 year of service.

Will continue to maintain competency by completing the minimum hours of continuing education courses within each period, corresponding to certification renewal.

Experience in an acute care hospital or surgery center, Sterile Processing, Central Service, Surgery Department preferred.

Preference given to individual experienced and competent in robotic, orthopedic and general surgical instrument cleaning & reprocessing procedures, who operates Sterrad sterilizer and biologicals independently.

Ability to work closely and communicate well with the department manager, shift supervisor and surgery department. Must have a strong working knowledge of Infection Control and sterile reprocessing practices.

Strong working knowledge of inventory practices within Meditech is expected.

Position requires standing 90% of the shift. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and push or pull 150 lbs. Specific vision abilities required for this job include intricate instrument inspection and requires exceptional close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
