The certified nursing assistant administers direct patient care and performs any other duties deemed necessary to insure quality patient care as ordered by the physician. The certified nursing assistant performs his/her duties under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. The certified nursing assistant will obtain vital signs and report any abnormalities to the appropriate nurse. They will obtain patients’ weight and height; obtain specimens as ordered; record intake and output. The CNA provides patients’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths. The CNA provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals. He/she provides adjunct care by administering enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, and sitz baths. The CNA will answer patients’ call lights and requests; documents patient actions per policy; and maintain patient confidentiality. Must follow all hospital policy and procedures. Additional job duties or function not related to your department may be requested per administration to assist in other areas of the hospital within your capabilities. Mandatory attendance of 10 of 12 staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior to employment, the CNA must have a criminal background investigation by the Louisiana State Police and be found to have no criminal charges. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Possess critical thinking skills, decisive judgment
Capable of collecting, receiving, processing, testing, and storing specimens
Setup and adjustment of equipment
Basic knowledge of specialty areas in the hospital
Basic knowledge of regulations

Administration, Director of Nursing, RN Charge Nurse, RN staff nurse and LPN.
