Work Unit Overview: The Planning Department is responsible for long-range planning; administering subdivision regulations, floodplain regulations, and building-for-lease-or-rent regulations; assigning temporary addresses; technical land planning assistance; administering the Airport Affected Areas, Big Hole Conservation Development Standards, and Tall Towers Ordinances; and land use and development services in Madison County. The department supports the County Commission and Planning Board through administrative, research, policy development, and oversight activities. The Department staff assists the Planning Board, which advises the County Commissioners and the Towns of Ennis, Sheridan, Twin Bridges, and Virginia City.
Job Summary: This position provides administrative, technical, and clerical support to the Planning Department. Performing a combination of office administration, public relations, and permitting related assignments, this position is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, providing assistance to the public, performing trained technical functions, and performing various other duties as assigned. This position requires some flexibility in scheduling for evening meetings.
The position will receive essential training and requires minimum of a high school diploma and two continuous years of experience working with the general public in an office/administrative, land use, or technological field. A Bachelor of Science degree may substitute for work experience. Must have demonstrable experience with standard office programs (e.g. Microsoft Office suite).
Tools and Equipment Used • Typical office equipment, including telephone, fax, copier, personal computer, printer; • Word processing, spreadsheet, publishing, website development, presentation, and GIS mapping software. • Vehicle.
