Job DescriptionJob Title:
Academic Advisor
Job Summary:
The Academic Advising Center at Frontier Nursing University (FNU) provides academic planning services for students to ensure FNU programs' successful and timely completion. The Academic Advisor provides individual and group advising to students in all FNU programs.
Supervisor Responsibility:
No supervisor responsibility
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic advising to graduate nursing students in an online environment, including registration of students each term
  • Attend on-campus orientations each term to assist advisees in a seamless transition to graduate school
  • Work with faculty and staff partners across the university to improve student success and assist in student degree completion
  • Work with at-risk students regarding satisfactory academic progress, academic probation, academic hiatus and refers to appropriate faculty or staff as needed
  • Handle, track and store student records per university guidelines and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations
  • Under the direction of the Director of Advising, assists with gathering data for reporting of student outcomes.
  • Participate as a team member of the Academic Advising Center, contributing to the overall goals of the center through participation in regular staff meetings
  • Stay informed of and is able to interpret institutional policies and procedures related to admissions, program changes, program of study updates, deadlines and due dates, tuition rates and university wide initiatives. This includes a deep knowledge and understanding of the FNU Catalog.
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Adhere to the elements of the Culture of Caring
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of academic institutions
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of advising in higher education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or relevant abilities about diversity and diversity-related issues that are important to the success of the institution, including but not limited to providing support to students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with student advising programs
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to work as a member of an efficient and productive team
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while effectively managing a large student caseload.
  • High technology proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population
Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of professional experience in student advising
Preferred: Master’s degree and professional experience in student services
Physical Requirements:
Should include any physical requirements, such as standing/sitting for long periods of time, ability to lift 40 pounds, etc.

Reports to the Director of Advising
