This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for assisting the Facilities Manager in the maintenance and upkeep of all YMCA properties, equipment and vehicles, in addition to special projects as assigned. Additionally, this position works with the Facilities Manager to create processes and procedures for all YMCA preventative maintenance needs.

Job Functions:
• Complete all maintenance and repair projects as assigned in the maintenance software, in a timely fashion.
• Proactively work in tandem with the Facilities Manager to prevent any disruptions in services through maintenance and monitoring of the facilities’ mechanical and technical systems.
• Oversee the maintenance of Wellness Center equipment, as well as studio sound systems.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to resolve property and equipment emergencies after hours and on weekends.
• Responsible for partnering with the Wellness Director to assess all Wellness equipment for any necessary upkeep or servicing needs and minimizing interruptions in services.
• Complete necessary logs and paperwork, and updates maintenance software, for assigned areas and projects.
• Work with vendors and other parties on assigned areas and projects to ensure warranty work is completed and parts are ordered timely.
• Keep area supervisors briefed on the status of work being done in their respective areas.
• Exercise good decision making and safety practices during all aspects of work.
• Produce effective work with minimal supervision.
• Other duties as assigned.

Salary:
• Starts at $19 per hour.

Job Requirements:
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current license and ability to drive with record that meets YMCA standards required. This position supports both Main Valpo Y campus and Valpo Y childcare location in downtown Valparaiso.
• Two to three years maintenance background.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and plumbing systems required. Certifications in one or more of these areas preferred.
• Working knowledge of fitness industry and equipment repairs preferred; ability to acquire training within 90 days required.
• CPO certification preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days required.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Good customer service skills.
• Strong communication stills, both written and verbal to communicate with staff, members, and vendors.
• Ability to remain calm during high-stress situations.

Work Environment & Other Requirements:
• Ability to work in a variety of environments, such as but not limited to: areas of high heat or very cold temperatures, areas with high humidity/dampness, dry or dusty spaces, and working outside as needed.
• Physical ability and stamina to perform the duties as outlined above, including but not limited to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
