Duties & Responsibilities

• Assumes the duties during scheduled and unscheduled absences of the Chief of Police.
• Conducts audits of units and Division functions to ensure professional delivery of services.
• Manages and directs the effective deployment of Division resources.
• Ensures effective liaison and cooperation with campus leadership, campus units, community members and groups, and law enforcement agencies.
• Aids in determining organizational goals necessary to meet the public safety needs of the University.
• Represents the Division at campus as well as outside programs, conferences, committees, and other communication efforts.
• Assists management in labor negotiations, grievance hearings, and meetings.
• Assists the Chief of Staff when needed as a spokesperson for the Division of Public Safety
• Attends symposiums and training sessions of interest to the Division and the University; makes appropriate presentations.
• Participates in an oral assessment promotional board to evaluate police promotional candidates for all of the institutions under the State Universities Civil Service System.
• Act as a campus security authority, as defined by the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, to include completing training and the timely reporting to the University of Illinois Police allegations of Clery Act crimes. Act as a responsible employee under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 which includes the timely reporting of incidents of sexual harassment/misconduct to the University of Illinois’ Title IX coordinator.
