Full-Time, Non-Exempt , Support Staff (Campus Facilities)
Pay Grade: 6.5
Pay starting rate: $18.77, see contract: https://www.svsu.edu/hr/contractspoliciesnotices/

Work Schedule: Second Shift (3PM to 11PM) and weekends. Holidays, as needed. Thursday through Monday.

JOB SUMMARY: Install and maintain locks, closures, panic devices, doors, and related hardware, alarms and devices. Maintain computerized record systems for key system tracking. Maintain computerized records for all electronic lock systems. Maintain and repair handicap door operators. Maintain, program, and install electronic lock systems. Assist with the development of new key systems. Perform all related duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train campus facilities employees in the proper methods and techniques to be used to access spaces with damaged locks
  • Ability to build cores and develop various pin combinations for specific situations
  • Install, repair and maintain electro-magnetic latching systems
  • Install card reading/scanning devices and other related computer controlled access devices
  • Maintain and adjust locks; check keys and locks for wear and repairs
  • Fabricate new pieces to fit hardware which may not have stock parts available
  • Maintain computerized records of core changes and current core installation locations
  • Maintain computerized records for key system tracking
  • Maintain computerized records for all electronic lock systems
  • Advise/assist with the development of new key systems
  • Maintain and repair panic devices, door closures, coordinators, hinges, automatic hardware, fire doors and other related hardware\
  • Impression keys for locks that have no keys, manipulate locks to gain access to equipment or areas
  • Assemble, install, and maintain controllers, power supplies, and remote devices for low voltage electronic lock systems
  • Other duties as assigned


RELATED DUTIES:

  • All Maintenance I related and essential duties
  • Assist in loading and unloading tools, material, supplies, and equipment
  • Estimate time and repair costs as required
  • Conduct scheduled rounds inspections and emergency service calls on campus
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as required
  • Assist HVAC workers in performing preventative maintenance to heating, air conditioning, and air distribution systems


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Assignments and administrative supervision are received from the Assistant Vice President and/or his designee(s).


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May be responsible for student employees assigned to them

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with strong math and reading skills
  • Must pass Locksmith Qualification Exam issued by the Associated Locksmiths of America, within a reasonable period of time.
  • Demonstrated understanding of core and lock coding with Best Access and other key systems
  • Valid Michigan Driver License
  • Ability to be bonded within a reasonable period of time
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills
  • Ability to begin and follow through with the task(s) or plan identified in the job description, and to take the first step in performance of those duties and responsibilities; including reporting of facilities or grounds maintenance needs; on one's own, without prompting or direction from others
  • Three years locksmith job-related experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and maintain good working relations with supervisors, co-workers, and the University community
  • Ability to follow and apply both routine and specific maintenance safety procedures
  • Ability to exercise appropriate judgment, based on specific situation
  • Ability to work alone or as member of a team, perform assigned duties within scheduled time limits,
    and adapt to rounds and emergency scheduling
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, equipment specifications, and instruction manuals
  • Knowledge of maintenance equipment, tools, materials, and work methods
  • Ability to physically lift, carry, push, and/or pull maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating, cooling, lighting, etc. tools and equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, maintain one's balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, hear, and distinguish colors when performing job duties
  • Ability to pass job-related physical examination, skill test, and/or State/Federal mandated training, licensing, and/or certification requirements, within a reasonable period of time
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental changes
  • Subject to potential hazards such as electrical currents, moving parts, and chemicals
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, and dust
