SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER
Reports to: General Manager, the position is exempt

THE ROLE
The Sustainability Manager reports to and works directly with the General Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all sustainability programs throughout the hotel. You will lead research and analysis used to develop sustainability strategies to ensure that all practices, products, and services are environmentally friendly. You will collaborate with other leaders to implement processes and technologies that reduce Populus Hotel’s carbon footprint. You will promote and explain the hotel’s sustainability philosophy to both internal and external audiences. At Aparium, our teams are encouraged to hold themselves, the guests, and each other in high regard. Respect for the team is imperative and we have a no-tolerance policy for the “old school way”.
WHO YOU ARE
Your past experiences have led you to understand that there is an art science to how and what a hospitality professional is responsible for. You have great pride in Populus Hotel and love to tell the story! You have worked in sustainability, and you are excited by the opportunity to learn more. The passion you have for delivering results has led you to be in this Sustainability role and challenging the status quo is part of your DNA. You continually find ways to partner with vendors and associates to identify areas of opportunity and have the grit and tenacity to see it through. The ability to work with controlled measure and respect for your leadership team and peers is imperative. You will also actively develop trusting and transparent relationships with vendors and associates at the hotels. As a team member within Aparium Hotel Group, you will work with a phenomenal group of peers who insist that you are collaborative, humble, experienced, and open-minded – no egos are allowed.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Lead all hotel-wide sustainability efforts
  • Perform sustainability audits for new and existing suppliers with the purpose of evaluating the expected sustainability performance of the supplier, and communicate relevant information with sourcing team to facilitate supplier selection decision and strategic decisions
  • Contribute to the development., management and implementation of product sustainability strategies and programs
  • Analyze and investigate key issues, trends and gaps in the sustainability program and develop improved processes
  • Educate and empower associates and leaders on sustainability issues, trends and opportunities
  • Research and apply for industry leading sustainability awards
  • Reinforce the company's Art Science ideologies to ensure the experiences of trans local hospitality, intuitive service, and collaboration are implemented and modeled by yourself and every leader of the hotel.
  • Uphold and role model the company’s principles of People, Place, and Character; and ensure you are modeling the way of our values that drive collaboration, intuition, and trans local hospitality.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of drive and determination and the willingness to complete tasks and projects as assigned by the General Manager or Aparium team.
HOW YOU WILL LEAD
  • Engage others in general conversation tactics to build rapport quickly; leading and adapting communication and presentation tactics to engage your audience; displaying adaptable interpersonal skills for a wide range of audiences and clients.
  • Demonstrates business acumen and practices sound financial decisions by ensuring the actions and plans put into place support the achievement of Sustainability program goals and budgets.
  • Approach fact-finding and discovery missions in a collaborative effort; valuing input and experiences of others that creates additional insight to uncover deeper issues that may need to be addressed or removed as a barrier to implementation.
  • Value the importance of making decisions with integrity, maintaining confidentiality across internal workgroups, and knowing how to use discretion when appropriate; knows how to keep a secret by understanding the difference between transparency and confidentiality.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability
  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant in experience in Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Science or Environmental Studies
  • LEED, AEE, ACCO, ISSP or equivalent certification is recommended
  • Adaptable interpersonal skills to communication and address all employee levels of the hotel.
  • Professional proficiency of the English language in reading, writing and verbal communication.
Compensation: $55,000 - $60,000 annually, based on experience
