Tulare County, CA is Hiring a Maintenance Worker I/II Near Tulare, CA

Multiple vacancies with the Facilities Division of General Services. Positions are in various locations in Tulare County and must be available to work between 7am and 5:30pm Monday – Friday. This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and future vacancies.
I: $3,285-$4,004 Monthly
II: $3,628 - $4,422 Monthly

Typical Duties

Assist with maintenance and repair work on heating, plumbing, electrical, ventilation and air conditioning systems in County buildings; clean, lubricate, replace or repair mechanical parts and equipment such as belts, motors, air handlers, generators, filters; check, test, install and repair electrical equipment, wiring and fixtures; service refrigeration, kitchen and laundry equipment; do semi-skilled plumbing and keep drainage systems clear and in working order; may build and install partitions and forms for retaining walls, curbs and sidewalks; test and treat steam plant systems with chemicals and check controls, valves, traps and boilers; use electric and gas welders for metal fabrication and repair work.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities for Maintenance Worker I would be completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent AND two (2) years of experience in construction or maintenance in the building trades. Maintenance Worker II requires completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in mechanical equipment or in the construction building trades.
Knowledge of - Math including fractions sufficient to take and manipulate measurements; basic maintenance and repair methods for plumbing and electrical systems.
Skill/Ability to - Perform basic repair and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment and plumbing fixtures; use power and manual hand tools; read and understand instruction manuals and diagrams; give and follow verbal and written instructions; organize work in proper step-by-step order and carry out assignments to completion; read blueprints sufficient to locate plumbing and electrical wiring; work cooperatively with others; observe safe work practices.
Special Requirements: Applicants must undergo a law enforcement background investigation and receive clearance to work within Sheriff Department detention facilities and maintain that clearance for the duration of employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Candidates selected may be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation will be conducted. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.

Benefit Amount:An annual benefit amount is provided and may be applied towards health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision and life). This benefit is pro-rated and paid on a pay period basis (24 pay periods).
Health Insurance:A choice of PPO and HMO medical plans which include PPO and HMO dental plans and include dental and vision coverage. Dependent coverage is available. Providers include Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente, Delta Dental, and Vision Services Plan (VSP).
Retirement:The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the County and the employee. The County has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.
Paid Holiday Leave:12 set days and 1 personal holiday.
Vacation Accrual:
2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
5 weeks per year (11 years of service)
Limit of 300 hours.
Sick Leave Accrual:12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 50 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave.
Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D:$10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company.
Disability Insurance:Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance. The premium is paid by the employee.
Deferred Compensation:A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
