ARCHIVIST

Job Summary:

The archivist is responsible for the cycle of a collection from the initial acquisition of records with significant historical and research value in any format (print, photograph, sound, moving images, digital) to the arrangement, description, cataloging, preservation, and providing reference for these materials.
You will participate in providing access to the collections both in person and remotely; participate in the development of Library & Archive Division policies and procedures; asses processing priorities; assist with monitoring the status or physical facilities; identify and apply for grants; assist with streamlining procedures; identify cost-saving measures and sharing of resources; enhance public service wherever possible; assist with maintaining agency records; contribute to data collection and analysis; identify, evaluate, recruit and train volunteers and interns; represent AHS on various internal, local and regional committees; participate in outreach programs; plan reading room and online exhibits; collaborate in developing Library & Archive Division brochures/materials and contribute to the agency's mission, goals and strategic plans as needed.

Job Duties:

• Respond to references, both on-site and remotely

• Coordinate security, policies, procedures, and schedule of the Reading Room

• Coordinates digitization of archival collections in response to paid duplication requests from external stakeholders, as well as requests from internal departments

• Contributes content to agency online and social media initiatives

• Processing archival collections: prioritize, arrange, describe, and preserve new and backlogged collections

• Participates in education and outreach programs

• Developing and conducting instruction sessions, participation in community events

• Assists with growth development, promotion, and access to AHS Collections, including maintaining the library catalog, and finding aids and other resources on agency websites

• Identify and supervise graduate internship and/or volunteer projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:

• General archival principles, methods, and standards of practice

• Reference principles and best practices

• Arizona/Southwest History

• Broad knowledge of principles of information architecture

• Experience in archival instruction

Skills:

• Strong commitment to working with the public and contributing to a customer service team

• Experience using library and archives tools, such as catalogs and finding aids to conduct research

• Excellent communication and time management

• Strong Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond productively to unanticipated changes and assignments

Abilities:

• Move from working independently to working as part of a team

• Prioritize resources/time to meet deadlines and benchmarks

• Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning, continuing education, and public service

• Aptitude for proposing creative solutions within budgetary constraints

• Demonstrated track record for engagement with various constituencies, internally and externally

Selective Preference(s):

• Master's degree in either Library Science with archives focus from an ALA-accredited program; Master's degree in Archival Studies or Archives Administration; Master's degree in History

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Must be able to obtain a state driver's license

• This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
