SummaryImmunohistochemistry (IHC) is used in histology to detect the presence of a specific protein marker that can assist with accurate tumor classification and diagnosis. This guide illustrates the basic steps used to create an IHC stain.
Job Responsibilities
- Process and Embed tissue in wax blocks and prepare them for sectioning.
- Section blocks with a microtome and create microscope slides to be stained by Hemotoxylin and Eosin methods.
- Stain microscope slides on the automatic stainer and/or manually and maintain instruments and all chemical changes as needed.
- Perform recuts, levels, IHC and histochemistry (special stains) when ordered by the pathologists.
- Assess quality of slides and ensure integrity of the patient specimen is always preserved.
- Maintain and clean all equipment on a daily basis
- Take periodic inventory of supplies and equipment and notify lab manager when ordering is necessary
- Perform other lab duties as needed under the direction of the lab manager
- Associate degree in Health or Science
- 2 years’ experience in clinical lab
- Ability to read specimen labels
- Attentive to Detail
- Thorough understanding of HIPAA law
- Team player
