Located along the meandering Suwannee River, Fanning Springs is an inviting source of cool, clear, crisp water that has attracted people for thousands of years. Fanning Springs produces 65 million gallons of water daily, making it a second-magnitude spring. Historically, Fanning Spring was a first-magnitude springs as recently as the 1990s. The springs offer the perfect 72-degree water to cool down on hot Florida days and an abundance of underwater wildlife to view. Musk turtles, bass, mullet, freshwater flounder, bowfin (and manatees during the colder days) inhabit the springs and river.

Your Specific Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
VISITOR SERVICES - Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Provides natural and cultural history interpretive educational programs and unit specific services as directed. Works cooperatively with a variety of governmental agencies, media groups, Citizens Support Organizations, and other community service groups. Expand park current outreach program by doing community outreach and event planning.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Observes, maintains and protects the natural, cultural, historic and archaeological resources of the park. Participates in prescribed burning related activities. Participates in vegetation and wildlife management plans; maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implements site restoration projects. Participates in water resources management plans. Collects and records resource management data.
MAINTENANCE - Constructs, cleans, maintains, and repairs park grounds, facilities and equipment utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Makes routine inspections to insure proper maintenance standards are met.
ADMINISTRATION - Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects. Answers telephone, operates park radio and various office equipment and maintains logs. Conducts purchasing and fiscal activities in compliance with established procedures. Collects fees, performs cash register transactions and reconciles receipts. Answers correspondence and maintains park files. Designs and organizes volunteer recruitment, special events and service programs. Monitors and defines suitable park volunteer services through supervision, orientation and training. Continuously updates volunteer service hours using the volunteer database (ie: VSys).
PROTECTION - Performs routine patrols and takes appropriate action to insure visitor safety and adherence to park rules; insures adherence to the Park Protection Plan. Supports the park staff through the maintenance program for all visitor and employee safety and protection activities including, but not limited to, researches and prepares action plans, conducts safety inspections of parks equipment and facilities oversees and trains others in safe use of equipment and maintains safety records. Opens and/or secures park facilities as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
