The CNC Operator is responsible for safely, productively, and skillfully creating beautiful metal fabricated parts to print specifications. These parts are to meet or exceed established quality and productivity standards.

Organizational Relationships and Authority

The CNC Operator reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

There are no direct reports to this position. However, machine performance is the responsibility of the operator and any conditions that are a safety concern or lower the expected output of the machine must be communicated to the shift supervisor.

Key Responsibilities and Purpose

The primary responsibility of the CNC Operator is to produce metal fabricated parts to customer print specifications using a standard process.

Additional tasks include:

  • Wearing proper protective equipment as directed by equipment or process
  • Understanding and complying with safety requirements
  • Expertly operating rolls and Press Brakes
  • Cleaning equipment and surrounding area as well as organizing tooling after the completion of each job.
  • Reporting all job hazards and non-conformance immediately to the Supervisor
  • Supporting achievement of company standards in safety, productivity, and on-time production
  • Maintaining a satisfactory attendance record as outlined in the employee handbook
  • Using inspection devices (calipers, pin gauges, check fixtures) to inspect parts, according to print and product inspection plan (PIP)

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, It is preferred that an individual have the ability to read a blueprint and calculate positive and negative adjustments to produce parts to print specifications. GSM has a training program that can teach you these skills if you do not possess them currently. Qualified candidates must possess basic computer skills including:

  • Desktop and workstation computer
  • Navigating ERP software or game controller

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 months in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Press Brake or Roll or Laser operational experience is preferred

Work Environment

  • Open office, cubicle, individual or shared office
  • Production/Manufacturing floor
  • Machine work center

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must possess the ability to regularly or occasionally meet the following physical demands:

  • Wear common protective or safety equipment including hearing and eye protection
  • Work in non-air-conditioned, variable temperature factory setting
  • Speak clearly and understandably with a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication
  • See a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Type at a keyboard without discomfort
  • Move around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
  • Travel beyond the office environment by private or commercial aircraft, automobile, or golf cart without undue stress or discomfort
  • Repeat the same physical or mental activities repetitively while sustaining accuracy of work
  • Lift up to 45 lbs. independently
  • Bending at the waist and neck
  • Working at shoulder height
