Job Description:

The person in this position works together with the Principal Investigator to design and carry out research experiments related to the molecular and cellular basis of cancer health disparity and links to metabolic diseases (diabetes and brain degenerative disorders). Specifically we study several novel pathways involving the role of scaffold proteins in nuclear-cytoplasm crosstalk and ER-stress. Perform experiments, analyze data, prepare manuscripts for publication, train and manage laboratory personnel and students, and manage all aspects of the research laboratory. We employ a multifaceted approach, including super-resolution microscopy, color IHC and kinemics. We use cell culture, mouse models and human tissues. Other projects in the lab include drug discovery both targeted and unbiased screens. We collaborate widely with experts in the field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PH.D. (preferred) or MS degree & 2 years of research experience required.
  • Background knowledge in molecular pathogenesis of disease.
  • Molecular biology facility management. Must have experience in molecular biology techniques, including the maintenance of PCR thermal-cyclers, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, laminar flow hoods for PCR work, pipets, freezers, storage conditions for samples and reagents, and proper standard operating procedures for molecular biology laboratory.
  • Cell culture facility management. At least 1 year of experience managing cell culture facilities, including maintaining certification of laminar flow hoods of cell culture work, maintaining proper function of cell culture incubators, establishing proper standard operation procedures for the culture of both primary and immortal cell lines.
  • Experience in light microscopy and immunofluorescence staining on tissues, primary cell cultures and on immortal cell lines. Ability to learn advanced microscopy upon training
  • Experience in the maintenance and husbandry of transgenic mice and/or rats and in non-survival mouse and rat surgery for the isolation and culture of primary cell cultures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel to include basic computer skills.
  • Computer database management with five years' experience establishing and maintaining computer databases for cell culture archives and experimental results, including proper computer backup.
  • Successful completion of NIH Protection of Human Subjects, CITI, HIPAA and laboratory safety training is required (may be completed post hire).
