Job Summary:

The Med - Surg RN is responsible to provide coverage for meal and breaks. Working closely with other staff members in the Med Surg/Rehab departments performing direct patient care through utilization of the nursing process in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act, physician orders, hospital policies and procedures, and established professional standards. The RN is responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, competent care either through direct delivery of that care or appropriate delegation and for performance improvement and quality initiatives as appropriate. Cardiac program including TAVR, Open Heart, and ROSC target temperature management.

What you will do in this role:

• You will maintain overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients
• You will manage efficient flow of patients including screening, preparation for exam, providing general nursing care, and arranging or testing and admissions
• You will instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions
• You will maintain and review patients’ records including posting tests and examination results
• You will administer medications in accordance with physician orders
• You will check rooms daily for necessary supplies
• You will respond to and refer incoming telephone calls (may include phone triage when needed)

Qualifications:

• Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse, have an active RN license in the state of California.
• ACLS (must be AHA)
• BLS (must be AHA)
• Must pass EKG exam
• Must have COVID vaccination
• Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Med – Surg RN.
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals
• Ability to work at least minimum of one shift per month
• Strong commitment to reliability and punctuality

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ASN, BSN, MSN)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

• Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Experience with using everyday technology tools (e.g, email, Microsoft Office, voicemail, internet/intranet to access, organize and store job-related information. EMR.
