About the team and position

Are you the kind of person who used to build apps and tools on the side for fun? Who taught yourself a new programming language or cloud skill? Who loves imagining new products as much as actually building them? If so, we'd like to talk to you.

We're looking for incredibly intelligent, highly technical, hard-working go-getters who are excited about working in a product-driven technology company to help us drive the best customer experience.

Ideally, you are fanatical about delighting users and developers, moving huge numbers, and seeing your product vision come to life. You love being involved with every step of the process, from developing technical designs and prototypes to solution design and iteration. You care deeply about communication and coordination of your product launches. You obsess over highly performant and highly available platforms that can scale with traffic and adapt fluidly to changing requirements of Carvana's business. In the course of a day you will have strategic product conversations with teams across Carvana and deep technical conversations with software engineers and architects in turn excitement for the evolving platform through demos and roadmap presentations with partner teams and stakeholders. You're highly autonomous while being highly collaboratively, communicative, and capable of taking high-level business problems and quickly developing solutions. And you're passionate about building deep relationships with your stakeholders and making sure their needs are represented to the rest of the business.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of a foundational team at Carvana. We are building the next generation business platform that will help drive our growth for years to come. You're also expected to be the leader of your team, ultimately responsible for the success of projects and the long-term trajectory of your KPIs.

Additionally:

  • Partner with leaders across the organization to drive strategic priority based on Carvana goals and platform needs.
  • Identify and define near-term tactical approaches and long-term opportunities. Proactively seek out ways to improve and grow the organization.
  • Break down large, complex initiatives into iterable pieces, coordinating any cross team communications.
  • Sets goals with the team to keep projects moving with urgency.
  • Lead concept to delivery of a product through the product life cycle, developer enablement, requirements gathering/consolidation, launch, and monitoring.
  • Share the products story by interpreting analytics and analyzing application performance data to propose iterations or future strategic projects.
  • Be the voice of the platform team! Through collaboration and communication, generate excitement and usage of our evolving business platform.
  • Work onsite in our Tempe, AZ office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you should have

  • Undergraduate-level education in STEM, Economics/Finance, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in technical software product management or software engineering/architecture.
  • Consistent track record of great, differentiated product releases.
  • Experience designing APIs, data structures, and platform capabilities and evangelizing to engineers and stakeholders.
  • Experience defining business process flows, that break down large, complex initiatives into iterative work for the engineering teams.
  • Experience working with UX team members or be willing to take a first pass at designs.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get it done, no matter what it is, for the sake of the team and our customers.
  • Sense of humor, we don't take ourselves too seriously and love to have fun.
  • Opinions - you should be familiar with a lot of products in consumer web/mobile as well as scaling cloud products and have convictions around what you do and don't like.
  • A mentality that customers come first, team second, and yourself third.
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and find the answers to your own questions.
  • Deep product or engineering experience at one or more highly successful (and ideally hypergrowth) companies.
  • Expertise in a metrics and data-driven environment with skills in data tools such as SQL and Tableau.
  • Experience with split-testing design and interpretation.
  • A driven, relentless - but positive! - attitude.

It would be great if you also had

  • Some experience in a product leadership, software engineering role or demonstrable experience in developing apps or tools.
  • Knowledge of product management best practices.
  • Knowledge of data science best practices.
  • Agile methodology experience.
  • Product strategy/road-mapping experience.
  • HTML/CSS/JS/C#/Database/Cloud development experience (for prototyping).
  • Familiarity with Tableau (for creating new reports).
  • Automotive industry experience.
