Description
Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Instrument & Control Technician performs assigned projects, procedures, or tasks, at a level of independent expertise, involving the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of all types of electronic, computer based, pneumatic or hydraulic equipment, associated with instrumentation and process control systems.
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs assigned projects and routine procedures or tasks involving the operation, inspection, checking and status-reporting in and around assigned electrical and mechanical station auxiliary equipment for the purpose of contributing to the overall safety, continuity and efficient operation of the power plant.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews, at the start of each assigned shift, the operating reports of the previous shift concerning the electrical and mechanical auxiliary equipment and verifies such information by personal inspection.
  • Performs the necessary steps and procedures concerning the operation, inspection, checking and status-recording of all assigned electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Completes the prescribed written reports at the specified intervals of time by reading and recording instrument indications of the station's auxiliary equipment.
  • Participates in and completes the operator training programs; prepares for the next level of progression through on-the-job training.
  • Works a rotating "swing" shift schedule and reports for work in a timely and dependable fashion.
  • Provides necessary on-the-job guidance of personnel of lesser experience in order to upgrade their operational skills.
  • Maintains appropriate channels of communication and cooperation with all power plant personnel, and reports any abnormal or potentially dangerous conditions to the appropriate supervisor(s) in a responsible and timely fashion.
  • Performs housekeeping in and around assigned work areas.
  • Responsible for the proper utilization, maintenance and security of assigned tools, equipment and work areas.
  • Makes recommendations to the control operator or the shift supervisor about practices, procedures, system requirements or improvements in order to facilitate maintenance schedules, short or long-range plans, and other work efficiencies or cost improvements.
  • Acts in an exemplary manner in order to maintain and promote safe practices and procedures; participates in scheduled safety meetings and first-aid classes.
  • Performs various assigned tasks or procedures, during construction or major maintenance phases, under the direction of various supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Demonstrates potential, either through work experience or education, for success in electrical, mechanical and/or control operational occupations; one (1) year experience as an Utility Operator
Skills and Abilities:
  • Broad knowledge regarding operation, troubleshooting, testing, repair and maintenance of power plant mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Must be capable of ascending and descending vertical ladders in a timely manner and perform work on platforms as assigned.
  • Must be able to work and/or stand and perform work non-stop for several hours at a time.
  • Must possess legible handwriting.
  • Must qualify for and maintain the appropriate driver's license in order to operate vehicles specified by the Company.
