The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Data Scientist, 1560, 7/9, FPL GS-13 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
RequirementsQualificationsThis vacancy is advertised under 2 different announcements. Please read the 'Who May Apply' section carefully to determine your eligibility. If you are not eligible under this announcement, please see 24-BOC-12381022-ST-KG. Applicants eligible under 24-BOC-12381022-ST-KG may apply to both announcements. Minimum Education Requirement: A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. AND GRADE 07 Specialized Experience: For the GS-7, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: knowledge of data science theories, principles, methods, and practices; experience using data visualization software. OR 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. GRADE 9 Specialized Experience: For the GS-9, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes providing support as a member of a team in the development, modification, and utilization of applications; data analysis and interpretation; database design and development; and troubleshooting and providing guidance on the effective use of applications, data management and visualization tools, and emerging technologies. OR 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
