The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at-risk families.


About the Job - Early Childhood Education Director

We have an opportunity for an energetic and dynamic Early Childhood Education Director to join our education team and be a part of our school staff. Our teaching staff is dedicated to providing the best quality services to our students.
The Early Childhood Education Director is responsible for overseeing all six daycare facilities in Western Tidewater to ensure that children have a safe and fun environment to learn and socialize with others. The Early Childhood Education Director will supervise and lead staff, design program plans, oversee daily activities, and prepare budgets. They are responsible for all aspects of the agency's Center Based Early Head Start and Head Start programs, which includes before- and after-school care through our Community Care program.

Our Early Childhood Education Director will…

  • Supports a learning-oriented organizational culture that emphasizes quality experiences for children, collaborative relationships, continuous improvement, and high performance by developing curriculum.
  • Participates in the development of strategic and tactical plans for the agency as a member of the Directors Team.
  • Responsible for Center Based programs, including hiring, training, evaluating, execution, and budget management.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and ensures the implementation of the on-going monitoring plan for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum.
  • Supervises and participates in classroom observations and maintains CLASS observational reliability rating credentials.
  • Ensures the agency is compliant with all VQB5 (Virginia Quality Birth 5) requirements, including VKRP assessments, research based curriculum, Internal CLASS observations, and LinkB 5 documentation..
  • Work in a collaborative environment and fosters positive relationships with staff, parents, and children.
  • Maintain compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards and Virginia Licensing.
  • Stay dedicated to our mission in order to build an educational foundation for each child to grow cognitively, emotionally, and physically each day.

We are most interested in applicants for the Early Childhood Education Director who …

  • Have 10 years experience working in early childhood liscensed daycare setting.
  • Have knowledge of child development and early childhood education principles.
  • Have knowledge of curriculum development principles and effective teaching strategies.
  • Have knowledge of grant and budget preparation and maintenance principles.
  • Have familiarity of Head Start and Virginia Licensing regulations


Qualifications for Early Childhood Education Director

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field with relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in a licensed child care facility with at least five (5) years in a Management role.
  • Knowledge of child development and early childhood education principles.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development principles.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of grant and budget preparation and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of accreditation and licensing standards and processes.
  • Ability to successfully pass required background, drug and health screening requirements.
  • Ability to travel between schools in Western Tidewater area.
  • Within six months of hire obtain a CLASS reliablity certification for all program areas.
  • Within 30 days of hire obtain required CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Ability to lift up to sixty (60) pounds.
