ESI is now hiring a Director of Finance in the Stuart, FL area.

POSITION SUMMARY :

ESI is seeking a Finance Manager who will serves as the finance officer for the school under the general supervision of the Head of School. The Finance Manager manages the school’s financial affairs including budgeting, purchasing, accounting, accounts payable, internal audit, fixed assets, and treasury functions. The Finance Manager establishes procedures sufficient to assure compliance with financial laws, regulations, and requirements to assure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standard business practices.

This is a salaried, exempt position with a 12-month work schedule. Salary will be set annually on a performance-based schedule as approved by the governing board. The Finance Manager will report to the Head of School. This position is fully on-site.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; and/or 3-5 years of experience in school finance, preferably Charter School accounting. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of community, computer system, financial and legal requirements.
  • Ability to effectively plan, meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, push a cart, or lift during the entire shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, including small packages and supplies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the budget process in partnership with school administration and governing board, and monitors activity in those funds throughout the fiscal year to assure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Adheres to Chart of Accounts (Redbook Codes) mandated for use by the Florida Department of Education.
  • Establishes and maintains an accounting system adequate to record transactions in accordance with requirements of GAAP, and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains system of controls over cash receipts, deposits, disbursements, and investments.
  • Establishes a system of internal controls for financial operations sufficient to provide reasonable, but not absolute, assurance that accounts are properly stated.
  • Monitor all purchasing/spending and ensure sound audit procedures.
  • Develops financial models for capital campaigns and construction projects.
  • Review and negotiate facility contracts and agreements such as custodial work and insurance contracts. Seek RFPs according to board guidelines.
  • At the direction of the Head of School, design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures. Faithfully execute the business plan, achieving or exceeding planned P&L objectives.
  • Manages records of insurable property, insurance claims, and necessary reporting.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial reports, assist annual budget preparation in collaboration with school administration and governing board.
  • Responsible for grant management cycle from application, budget development, monthly draw downs, related journal entries, grant reporting, and compliance.
  • Coordinates audit process and preparation of relevant returns as required by federal, state, or local guidelines with external audit firm.
  • Attends and participates in board meetings at the request of the school administration/ governing board.
  • Monitors the Capital Improvement Program and communicates to Leadership through verbal and written reports ensuring the program is running according to plan and budget.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
