Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in basic sciences or related field. Experience in scientific bench research using scientific research methods for data collection.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in basic sciences or related fields. Two (2) years of full-time experience in scientific bench research. Research skills including but not limited to Western Blot, Gel electrophoresis, tissue culture techniques. Experience with HPLC.
Brief Description of Duties:
Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment HPLC-MS and MALDI, carry out test procedures as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of research programs conducted in the Stony Brook Cancer Center Research Lab. The successful incumbent will have the opportunity to work in cutting-edge research labs at Stony Brook Cancer Center which combines research, medical care and education. This position is open to motivated and qualified individuals who are interested in supporting the discovery of novel biomarkers and the development of novel therapies for patients with cancer.
An ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, exercise strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties:
• Conduct experiments: provide technical laboratory support to assist with experiments conducted.
• Perform literature search by staying current in the field by reading and discussing literature and experimental results with the supervisor and/or PI.
• Collect data, record observations and measurements, prepare reports for review by supervisor / PI.
• Other duties as assigned.
