Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing clinical research/study workups, providing timely study related enrollment data, and providing the sponsoring organization with compiled data.

Research Technician Essential Functions

• Serves as primary technician in all research studies (works with research team to have back up technicians trained to provide coverage when the research tech is out of the office on approved absence)
• Collects clinical data as it relates to study participants and collaborates with administrative assistant and research team to enter into database(s) as necessary
• Works up study patients according to study protocol
• Obtains informed consent as it relates to the study, including double-blind aspect, as appropriate
• Discloses participatory guidelines as required by sponsor
• Performs accurate and consistent measurements and tests, then coordinates completion of documentation with administrative assistant for each visit as required by study protocol
• Acquaints all patients with the office tests and procedures to which they will be exposed
• Adheres to study protocols and works with the administrative assistant to communicate them to other departments as necessary
• Coordinates research schedules and necessary additional study time with Systems, Staffing, and Resource Allocation Manager
• Coordinates start of new studies and training for tech back-up with Systems, Staffing, and Resource Allocation Manager to ensure studies can be completed successfully
• Coordinates research schedule with Systems, Staffing, and Resource Allocation Manager to open templates within the visit windows
• Works with the Systems, Staffing, and Resource Allocation Manager to provide quarterly updates via email of study criteria for enrollment in active or soon to be active studies to meet enrollment goals.
• Posts active studies in shared drive along with inclusion/exclusion criteria for reference
• Works with Systems, Staffing, and Resource Allocation Manager on all financial and regulatory documents to sponsor and IRB
• Collaborates with administrative assistant to enter all exam data into necessary database(s) as defined by sponsor
• Oversees compliance with federal regulations on research in human subjects, study confidentiality and HIPAA
• Participates in study monitor visits as necessary
• Maintains records and regulatory binders as requested by the study sponsor
• Participates in patient recruitment
• Works with the Systems, Staffing, and Resource Allocation Manager to secure studies
• Prepares patient charts for visits

Other Essential Functions

• Must be willing and able to work a variety of hours and frequently travel to our various locations
• Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time
• Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Licensing

• High School Diploma, or equivalent, required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare strongly preferred

Experience

• At least 3 years’ experience as an ophthalmic technician strongly preferred
• Research experience required, healthcare specific research strongly preferred
