Position Title:Communications Director
Salary Range: $84,500.73 - $135,442.83
Job Description Summary:The Communications Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive internal communication strategies that engage and inform employees across the organization. This is a collaborative position that plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and driving effective communication channels. The Communications Director manages reputation and crisis communications, serves as the point person for organizational public relations, and advises the Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and senior leaders on internal and external communications.
Job Description: Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Internal Communication Strategy:
  • Independently develop and implement a strategic internal communication plan aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Lead internal communications workflows, platforms, and quality assurance processes, including the organizational intranet sites and content, weekly staff update emails, quarterly information-sharing presentations, and hallway TV monitors.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and tone across all internal communication channels.
  • Leadership Communication:
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and deliver executive communications, including a CEO weekly message.
  • Provide strategic guidance to leaders on effective communication methods.
  • Content Development:
  • Responsible for engaging and informative content for various internal platforms, including newsletters, intranet, and email communications.
  • Tailor messages to different employee segments, ensuring relevance and impact.
  • Change Management Communication:
  • Lead internal communication efforts during periods of organizational change partnering with the change management team.
  • Partner with and lead project teams to design and implement holistic communication plans that promote transparency and connect to values and vision.
  • Develop communication plans to manage expectations and facilitate smooth transitions.
  • Employee Engagement Programs:
  • Responsible for content related to design and execution of initiatives to enhance employee engagement and morale.
  • Collaborate with HR to integrate communication into employee recognition and development programs.
  • Internal Events Communication:
  • Develop effective communication plans for internal events, in-the-loops, and all-staff meetings.
  • Ensure seamless communication before, during, and after events.
  • Measurement and Feedback:
  • Establish and utilize metrics to measure the effectiveness of internal communication initiatives.
  • Gather employee feedback and use data to continually improve communication strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Lead collaboration with other teams to ensure alignment of internal messaging with external communication efforts.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and open communication across departments.
  • Serve as the marketing point-person for the central services group, including operations, administration, and human resources.
  • Department support
  • Manage external agencies and vendors as necessary to ensure timely and on-budget delivery of initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in communication and internal brand management.
  • Lead messaging and tracking of internal marketing and communication collateral.
  • Help oversee studio productions, video and audio editing, and content library as it relates to internal content.
  • Develop and manage the internal communications budget and ensure initiatives are within budget and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Reputation Management:
  • Develop and execute strategies to maintain and enhance the organization's public image and reputation across various media and stakeholder groups.
  • Monitor public perceptions and media coverage related to the organization, and proactively address any issues or negative publicity.
  • Work closely with public relations agencies to create cohesive and positive messaging about the organization.
  • Public Relations:
  • Serve as a key contact for the organization in interactions with the media, public events, and other external engagements regarding organizational reputation on behalf of Enterprise Team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media representatives and public officials to facilitate effective communication and advocacy of company values and objectives.
  • Coordinate with the legal and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with communication laws and standards during public disclosures.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases, organizational statements, and key messages for use by company executives during public appearances and interviews.
  • Coordinate Public Relations activities with Regional Team marketing.
  • Crisis Communication:
  • Lead the development and implementation of crisis communication plans to manage and mitigate issues that could impact the organization's reputation.
  • Train and prepare key personnel for handling media inquiries and public appearances during sensitive situations.
  • Rapidly respond to crisis or urgent situations, acting as a point of contact for all external communications.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership of continuous improvement for marketing team in support of Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). 
  • Defining, planning, and executing all-team trainings and professional development opportunities.
  • Marketing organization management by: 1) Resource identification and allocation, 2) Workflow process management and optimization , 3) Budget creation and management
  • Growth and evolution of marketing team culture.
  • Fiscal and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Supports in the development and review of overall marketing 3-year budget.
  • Supports in the development of overall marketing 3-year headcount.
  • Supports CMO in providing strategic marketing thought leadership to internal teams.
Additional Job Description:Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field AND a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in internal communications or related roles. OR
  • A combination of related post-secondary and/or professional education and demonstrated relevant work experience in communications equivalent to a total of twelve (12) years.
  • Proven leadership experience in developing and executing internal communication strategies.
  • Experience leading people and projects.
Minimum Requirements For The Senior Communications Director:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field AND a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in internal communications or related roles. OR
  • A combination of related post-secondary and/or professional education and demonstrated relevant work experience in communications equivalent to a total of fourteen (14) years.
  • Extensive leadership experience in developing and executing internal communication strategies.
  • Extensive experience leading people and projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Communications, Business, or related field.
  • Certification in Internal Communications or Change Management.
  • Experience in remote or multi-location organizations.
  • Experience working in a client-focused industry.
  • Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.

Salary Range:
  • Communications Director, Grade 12, $84,500.73 - $118,301.02 per fiscal year, commensurate with experience.
  • Senior Communications Director, Grad 14, $96,744.88 - $135,442.83 per fiscal year, commensurate with experience.
