Job Overview:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: ASN, BSN, MSN, or diploma
  • Current RN license, in good standing with the State of Alabama
  • Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience preferred, pediatric experience required
  • Must have cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diversity
  • Must understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality; must maintain confidentiality under HIPPA standards

Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Resource for Staff:

  • Creates a customer/patient friendly environment, using customer service skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Assists in orienting and training new staff as directed. Seeks opportunities to improve or enhance nursing and leadership skills
  • Available to other office clinical and non-clinical staff to answer questions and provide assistance as appropriate and when necessary. Serves as clinical resource and professional role model for teammates
  • Performs and delegates a variety of tasks to coordinate patient care
  • Aware of coding and reimbursement issues
  • Participates in staff planning, in-service, and other meetings as needed
  • Monitor patient flow in the clinic; ensure that patients received all recommended services in a timely manner. Assist clinical staff with such flow and services when necessary.
  • Administers medications and vaccinations and performs medical and nursing procedures as ordered with the scope of practice
  • Provides complete patient assessment, including vital signs and pre-examination procedures and documents in patients records appropriately
  • Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines and ensures clinical staff is in regulatory compliance with both

Triage Coordination:

  • Monitors and responds to triage calls in person and/or on the nurse phone line
  • Utilize standing orders and triage protocols appropriately to evaluate and assess patient’s health care needs based on patient’s signs and symptoms
  • Talks directly to parents/patients on telephone, determining urgency of patient’s needs based on brief assessment and on familiarity with patient’s condition and/or history, using such information to give advice on home care, schedule patient for appointment with medical provider, or send to emergency room when necessary
  • Obtains appropriate input and direction from medical providers as needed to determine best clinical course of action and recommendations for specific patient health care needs
  • Accurately documents symptoms/complaints, nursing assessment, advice provided and patient/caller response
  • Follows policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure consistency and departmental effectiveness, as well as improve health care outcomes of patients/callers and their access to appropriate health care
  • Manage prescription refills per protocol
  • Performs and delegates a variety of tasks to coordinate patient care
  • Communicates appropriately and tactfully with staff, parents, patients, visitors, and community
  • Reduce conflict and increase patient satisfaction whenever possible through timely response to calls
