Health Information Management Assistant
We are searching for a great Full Time Health Unit Secretary / Medical Records Assistant / Health Information Management Assistant to work in our Health Information Department at Royal Park Health and Rehabilitation Center. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the duties below, have a great work ethic and attendance record. The Center uses Point Click Care for our Electronic Health Records.

JOB SUMMARY
The Health Information Management Assistant is directly accountable to the Health Information Manager (HIM) for the daily support of the Health Information Department in keeping with company policies and processes, professional standards, and state and federal laws and regulations for long-term care facilities. The Health Information Assistant follows policies to confirm that records are accurately documented, readily accessible, and systematically organized. The Health Information Assistant works regularly with Health Information Specialist and performs other duties as assigned and directed by the HIM.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Verifies medical record information is protected and kept confidential.
  • Protects medical record information from loss, defacing, or destruction per record retention requirements.
  • Confirms that medical record information is filed accurately and appropriately to resident’s in-house chart, overflow charts, and discharge records.
  • Copies appropriate information for transfer of medical record information as requested.
  • Under the supervision and direction of the HIM, identifies incomplete documentation (audits) and reports to individuals responsible for completion.
  • Mails documents to Center physicians as directed by HIM signed documentation through the use of various tracking systems and mail log.
  • Assists with quality assessment and assurance studies as requested by HIM.
  • Maintains Center support of required forms, both within the Health Information Department as well as at Nursing Stations in the Center.
  • Shares the responsibility of maintaining the computer database accurately and consistently for admissions, physician orders, care plans, and MDS information with the HIM.
  • Follows established process for thinning of residents’ medical record as found in the Health Information Manual.
  • Works to become familiar with processes as appropriate, as outlined within the Health Information Manual.
  • Observes infection control processes and safe working processes.
  • Assists with quality assessment and assurance studies as requested by HIM.
  • Follows Center policies and process.
  • Consistently works cooperatively with staff.
OTHER DUTIES
  • Assists administrative staff and nursing staff as assigned.
  • Completes special audits/responsibilities as requested by HIM.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to read and write in English, with knowledge of arithmetic and typing speed of 50 wpm.
  • Knowledge of computer operation, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and data inputting.
  • Ability to use good judgment and make decisions.
