POSITION: Custodian

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator

SALARY: As per agency salary schedule FLSA: Non-Exempt

HYBRID WORK: Ineligible

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Competence in Knowledge for the Position

1. Demonstrates the ability to provide and document necessary janitorial services for the center while following approved cleaning and sanitation methods.
2. Utilize cleaning equipment and supplies provided.
3. Removes garbage from premises daily.
4. Cleans rooms and bathrooms daily following cleaning and sanitation schedule.
5. Scoops snow and spreads ice melt.
6. Sanitize and launder necessary cleaning materials.
7. Demonstrates the ability to plan and efficiently complete tasks.
8. Adapts to change which support the program and its services.
9. Requests necessary janitorial supplies in timely manner.
10. Makes facility and equipment repairs within the scope of the assigned location.
11. Reports any building maintenance issues to supervisor.

1. Implements State regulations, grant requirements and UDMO and Head Start Policies and Procedures.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Familiarity with computer knowledge and skills in computer operations.
2. File and organize information.
3. Inventory supplies and equipment.
4. Attend meetings and trainings as required.
5. Viable means of transportation, and evidence of insurance, valid Iowa driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Prefer High School Diploma or equivalent. 
2. Prefer previous knowledge of proper cleaning methods and equipment.
3. Good verbal communication skills.
4. Ability to work as effective team member.
5. Certifications: Mandatory Reporter, CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions.
6. Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 5-10 pounds constantly, performing such activities as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, including some duties requiring repetitive motion skills, such as keyboarding and computer use.
7. Initial physical and one every 3 years thereafter.
