Fayette Cares is Hiring a Custodian Near Somerville, TN

The Custodian handles the day-to-day cleaning and light maintenance duties of the Fayette Cares facilities. The Custodian works at the Fayette Cares properties including the office, emergency housing, food pantry and Thrift Store. This is a Part Time non-exempt position with benefits (Retirement, Vacation, Personal Leave, and Holiday).

Qualifications and Desired Skills:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience in cleaning and light building maintenance
  • Ability to relate professionally with people and exercise good judgment in dealing with applicants, residents, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and solve complex problems in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work with and relate to diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain program participant information confidential within legal limits.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, listening, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must pass background check and drug testing.

Examples of Duties Performed:

  • Cleans and maintains buildings/facilities.
  • Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes furniture, walls, machines, and equipment; cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures.
  • Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas
  • May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. May also sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow, or perform other incidental seasonal tasks
  • Cleans and vacuums carpeted areas, including application of spot cleaning treatment
  • Gathers and empties trash
  • Wipes and cleans tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas
  • Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures
  • Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms
  • Periodically cleans overhead vents, dusts blinds, and polishes wood furniture
  • Cleans interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
  • Notifies managers concerning the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Clean emergency shelter units when clients exit. To include cleaning all common areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. This includes heavy cleaning such as refrigerators, vents, blinds, ceiling fans, etc. Gathers all items left by clients and removes all trash.
  • Stocks food donations in food pantry and stocks other donations in designated areas.
  • Transports merchandise to thrift store and storage at secondary locations
  • Maintain appropriate client confidentiality at all times.
  • Other tasks may reasonably be assigned as the organization’s priorities and need evolve.

Working Conditions, Physical Demands, and Job Environment:

  • Ability to handle stress, adapt to change, and transition quickly from one project to another.
  • Position requires lifting up to 50 pounds’ variable distances; the mobility and flexibility to use ladders and to access and work in confined spaces or at heights in excess of eight to nine feet; the ability to work outdoors in temperatures exceeding 90 degrees or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and the ability to personally perform general maintenance repair tasks without endangering themselves, resident or co-workers.
  • Use of general maintenance equipment including, but not limited to: hand tools, ladders, landscaping equipment, blowers, and required safety equipment.
  • Unsupervised contact with vulnerable program participants.
  • Access to confidential information.
  • Access to an automobile with proof of adequate insurance and a valid driver’s license

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 16 per week
