These unique composites will facilitate the construction of high-efficiency vehicles that require 50% fewer batteries to achieve a 500-mile range, as well as ultra-long offshore wind turbine blades that enhance renewable energy generation. Our material innovation has earned support and funding from prestigious and forward-thinking organizations and industry leaders such as Bill Gates' climate fund Breakthrough Energy, MIT, the U.S. Department of Energy, major wind and automotive OEMs, and Tier One suppliers.

ROLE

We are seeking a Director of Materials to lead Gencores’ product development efforts and support the launch of our first product. This role will report directly to the CEO. You will join a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary team of five exceptional scientists and engineers collaborating closely to introduce our innovative materials to the wind turbine and automotive markets.

Your essential responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a small team of outstanding material scientists, process engineers, and technicians to tailor and qualify the properties of the company’s materials to customer requirements
  • Ensure that produced materials meet the customers’ required quality standards and specifications. Implement and enforce quality control processes and procedures.
  • Establish OKRs, timelines, and budgets. Keep R&D and product teams on track, balancing speed and scientific rigor within budget. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities for team members.
  • Develop supplier’s relationship and implement procurement strategies to ensure the continuous supply of materials. Identify and qualify new suppliers to diversify the supply base chemicals. Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings and ensure quality. Build and oversee internal inventory
  • Develop long-term materials management strategies aligned with company goals. Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans for supply chain disruptions
  • Contribute to the strategy and establishment of Gencores’ intellectual property
  • Develop, write, and monitor million-dollar grants and budgets

  • · Able to efficiently lead and manage high-performance teams. Including implementing agile, lean management processes that are compatible with the evolving stage of the company.
  • Demonstrated track record developing materials from ideas to products
  • Capacity to form and develop strong industry relationships
  • Represent the company in public and fundraising events

Our preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer science or material science and engineering or equivalent
  • At least 10 years of industrial experience with a proven track record for developing and commercializing material products in a start-up environment
  • Experience with leading high-performance teams and hiring exceptional talents
  • Experience scaling up material processing and production from lab to pilot scale or higher
