Legend Biotech US is Hiring a Director Tax Near Somerset, NJ

Legend Biotech is seeking Director Tax as part of the Finance team based in Somerset, NJ. 

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director of Tax to join our growing finance team. The role will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the company’s tax function including ensuring compliance with tax regulations and maintaining the appropriate analysis and documentation to support corporate’s transfer pricing, tax credits and tax positions. This position will support the US and EU regions and be responsible for interacting with Accounting, External Reporting, External Tax Advisors, FP&A and Treasury. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of tax laws and regulations, particularly within the biotech industry.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance and Reporting:

  • Responsible for preparing the quarterly tax provisions for US and EU and then working with the Corporate Controller, External Reporting Group, third party tax advisors, and our external auditors to ensure compliance, address technical questions and assist with financial statement footnote disclosures.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, this will include working with our third-party tax advisors on the corporate and collaboration tax returns.
  • Responsible for preparing and managing the sales and use tax filings required in the US and the annual 1099 filings.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for preparing or working with our third-party tax advisors around white papers or technical documentation required by our auditors related to new tax laws, changes in accounting methods, or inquires by tax authorities.

Tax Planning and Strategy:

  • Assist with transfer pricing analysis and documentation to ensure compliance and minimize risk on a global basis.
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax positions. This includes how to maximize usage of NOL’s, R&D tax credits and other tax credits available to the company.
  • Provide guidance on the tax implications of potential business development deals, including in licensing, collaboration arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and international operations.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the company. Responsible for understanding implications of Pillar 2 and working with our tax advisors to building the appropriate reporting, disclosures and filing documentation.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate tax risks through effective internal controls and procedures.
  • Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities in the US and EU. Process Improvement:
  • Continuously improve tax processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement best practices in tax compliance and reporting.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to provide tax expertise and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or MST preferred. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax, with a focus on the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. 
  •  Experience with tax compliance software and financial systems. Preferred experience with SAP.
  • Experience with international tax issues and transfer pricing.
  • Familiarity with R&D tax credits and incentives.
  • Proficiency in using tax research tools and software
