Pulaski County Schools is Hiring a BEHAVIOR CONSULTANT Near Somerset, KY

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: The Behavior Consultant, under the supervision of the special education department director or designee, assists in the development and implementation of behavior intervention programs and services for students with challenging behavioral needs at various sites throughout the district, monitors and collects data on behavior and documents progress, and collaborates with school staff to implement behavior interventions, completes functional behavior assessments and provides training to staff as appropriate related to behavioral strategies and interventions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with developing, monitoring and supervising the implementation of individualized instructional programs (such as discrete trail training, social skills development, behavior support and intervention plans).
  • Learn and apply behavioral strategies and techniques with a variety of individuals of varying ages and disabilities.
  • Assist staff in the implementation of behavioral strategies as an intervention tool prior to developing formal Behavior Support Plans for identified students.
  • Participate in the preparation and coordination of all materials necessary for implementing individualized programs as stated above.
  • Consults with the parent, administration, and classroom teacher about necessary accommodations and modifications for the student.
  • Assists in the participation and transition of students through the use of inclusion support techniques such as shadow prompting when needed.
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes daily student progress data on assigned students and reports that data to supervisors and the IEP team in formal, informal, and ARC meetings.
  • Provides written reports to staff and supervisors as requested.
  • Assists in the training of staff on evidence-based practices for intervention.
  • Participates in trainings to learn new strategies for behavioral intervention and skill development.
  • Provide individual or small group social/adaptive skill interventions/training that is research based to students as appropriate.
  • Consults with IEP team members and other appropriate staff on a regular basis.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with an emphasis in psychology, social work, special education, or other related field. Experience working with individuals with behavioral needs preferred.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in a related field preferred.
  • Understanding and familiarity with the characteristics for a wide range of disabilities including (but not limited to) autism, intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, and ADHD.
  • Child guidance principles and practices, especially as related to students with disabilities. Certification in safe crisis management program (or obtained within the first 90 days of employment).
  • Be able to maintain frequent, meaningful parental communication and develop proactive partnerships between the student/parent and school district to support academic achievement and pro-social behaviors.
  • Knowledge of standard software applications such as Google and Microsoft.
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Plan (IEP) procedures.
  • An understanding of basic subjects taught including math, reading, English, language arts, and writing.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Sufficient vision to read printed materials.
  • Sufficient hearing to conduct in person and telephone conversations.
  • Voice with sufficient volume and clarity to be heard during normal conversations.
  • Sufficient dexterity to write, use telephone, office, and media equipment.
  • Sufficient mobility to move about the District and drive a car.
  • Sufficient mobility and strength to apply safe crisis management procedures as necessary. Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to endure sometimes stressful conditions.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
