PURPOSE:The Senior Process Engineer reporting directly to the department manager will provide technical expertise in all aspects of process engineering support relevant for day-to-day, medium and long term activities requiring process engineering support for the refinery. This role will a dopt principles of continuous improvement to drive out waste and inefficiency and enhance profitability across the refinery.
KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support and build/maintain internal partnering relationships with other refinery departments such as Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, as well as across Calumet’s other refinery locations.
- Provides technical guidance to unit engineers on the interpretation of operating unit data and troubleshooting.
- Serve as a technical authority of operating limit and drive continuous improvement.
- Act as coach for entry level engineers on training of process engineering tools (simulation, sizing, etc)
- Take on special projects and initiatives that are strategic in nature
- Perform process design associated with refinery improvements.
- Identify and develop refinery improvement projects.
- Develop economic justification for refinery improvements.
- Prepare engineering specifications including instrument specifications, equipment specifications, construction specifications and bid packages.
- Assist with design and implementation of unit optimization initiatives including the use of Process Control
- Solicit and evaluate bids for equipment and construction.
- Monitor and evaluate process unit performance.
- Utilize simulation software to identify and debottleneck unit constraints.

- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years of process engineering experience (10 years preferably in a refinery setting)
- Hands on and current experience with performing process design, emissions calculations, relief sizing and process simulation
- Expertise in fractionation and hydroprocessing would be a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and team capabilities when necessary

- Manufacturing facility and office based with up to 10% travel required for business visits.
