School Bus DriverMinimum of .50 FTE / 4 hrs per day

TITLE : School Bus Driver
REPORTS TO : Transportation Supervisor and / or designee
PURPOSE
Operate school buses under all types of weather conditions to transport students and other authorized persons over regular "to and from" routes and on activity trips as authorized by the school district officials.
Ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from the bus.
Serve as a courteous representative of the Sherwood School District.

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalentMeet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, and responsibilities of a school bus driver as required by the State and District policies and proceduresPossess an Oregon Commercial Drivers' License, Type B, with passenger, air brake and school bus endorsements, demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all applicable laws and regulationsPossess an Oregon School Bus Drivers' Certificate and maintains a driving record within ODE requirementsAbility to work with minimal supervision in performance of dutiesWillingness to attend workshops and training sessionsAbility to understand and follow verbal and written communicationAbility to work harmoniously and communicate with students, parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
Reports deficiencies in equipmentReports all possible problem areas (safety hazards, parent / student concerns or complaints)Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of assigned district vehicles;
sweeping, dusting and washingMaintains required licenses, certificates and first-aid card by attending required training classes and preserving a good driving record within ODE requirementsOperate a school bus in accordance with laws of the State of Oregon and District policy / proceduresAssists students and other passengers with safe loading and unloading from the bus in both emergency situations and normal transportMonitor students, parents and staff members during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers.
Take precautions to provide for health and safety of the passengers and to protect the equipmentReport unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of supervisory personnelEstablish open lines of communication with supervisor, administration and district staff, and cooperates to resolve problems in a professional mannerAssess incidents, complaints, accidents and potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situationAfter 90 days of driving a route and class training drivers may volunteer to drive for field trips

EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Sherwood School District 88J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter #103.
