Mason County PUD No. 3 is Hiring a Senior Accountant Near Shelton, WA

Description

Mason PUD 3 is seeking a new team member to join our Finance team as a Senior Accountant. This position is responsible for performing accounting work by applying and implementing accounting principles, standards, theories, concepts and practices to a wide variety of accounting situations. 4/10 Work Schedule 

The Senior Accountant’s salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience, with the expectation that, over time and upon demonstrating proficiency and satisfactory performance, it will align within the midpoint of one of the following established ranges:

  • Senior Accountant I: $70,600 - $105,910 annually, with a midpoint of $88,260.
  • Senior Accountant II: $77,670 - $116,500 annually, with a midpoint of $97,080.

Job Duties

  • Perform professional accounting work involving compilation, consolidation, and analysis of financial data.
  • Assist with the preparation of the District’s ACFR for internal and external purposes by preparing annual and monthly financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP, FERC and GASB Statements. 
  • Ensures accuracy of the District’s accounting systems by making day-to-day decisions relating to the accounting treatment of financial transactions, recommending solutions to accounting problems, and propose changes in various aspects of the overall accounting system. 
  • Assists the District’s internal auditor in audits by the Washington State Auditor’s Office. 
  • Coordinates activities with various financial institutions by monitoring and balancing daily activity along with the preparation of monthly reports on fund balances and earnings. 
  • Assists in depositing regular funds and invests PUD idle funds in approved institutions to provide the safest and highest yield consistent with ongoing cash needs. 
  • Compile periodic reports/surveys as required by state, federal and utility related organizations, departments, and bureaus. 
  • Helps to ensure the District complies with all federal, state, and city tax and other reporting requirements by preparing and filing tax returns and other reports and recommend/develop changes to procedures to ensure on-going compliance. 
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and preparation of the annual budget and monthly status of the budget report along with the District’s 5-year financial plan. 
  • Maintain compliance with federal law and district policy concerning HIPPA.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Be capable of acquiring knowledge of utility accounting systems, principles, and practices; auditing techniques and principles; applicable local, state, and federal laws; and FERC and GASB requirements.
  • Technical proficiency to work with multiple operating programs including Microsoft Office and other needed technology.
  • Use excellent verbal/written and human relations skills to interact successfully with all levels of the organization, the general public and other agencies in a courteous and responsive manner. 
  • Ability to use independent and discretionary judgment and to analyze and solve problems at all times.
  • A high degree of accuracy in working detail is necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education & Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Current CPA license preferred. 
  • A minimum of 4-6 years of recent accounting experience, including financial statement preparation, transactional accounting, and accounts payable. 
  • Utility accounting experience is preferred.
