Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Biller to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately billing patients and third-party payers while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Medical Coder Job Responsibilities:

• Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications.
• Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement.
• Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
• Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff.
• Reviews and verifies documentation supports diagnoses, procedures and treatment results.
• Identifies diagnostic and procedural information.
• Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
• Assigns codes for reimbursements, research and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing guidelines.
• Follows coding conventions. Serves as coding consultant to care providers.
• Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues.
• Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors.
• Identifies reportable elements, complications, and other procedures.
• Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff.
• Assists lead or supervisor in orienting, training, and mentoring staff.
• Provides ongoing training to staff as needed.
• Review and verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors
• Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies
• Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe
• Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount
• Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
• Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances
• Review accounts for insurance of patient follow-up
• Research and appeal denied claims

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Medical Biller or similar role
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and diagnosis coding
• Familiarity with insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid
• Excellent mathematical skills with the ability to handle financial records
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry

Qualifications:

• Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (Certified Professional Coder)
• Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
