Swim Instructor Job Description
Purpose
A Swim Instructor teaches private & group swim lesson to kids and adults of all abilities with the primary responsibility to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations. Swim Instructors must be able to enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.

Duties and Responsibilities
Teach private & group swim lesson to kids and adults of all abilities.
Maintain watch over the pool area ensuring a secure and safe environment.
Employ accident prevention by enforcing pool rules and regulations.
Respond to all injuries, incidents, and emergencies as directed by Scarsdale Pool Complex policy.
Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatic’s facility.
Actively always guards and scan the pool area; refrains from socializing while guarding.
Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons.
Document any incidents and/or injuries.
Maintain a clean and tidy work space.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Criteria for Success
Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies through knowledge and application of lifeguard
surveillance and rescue techniques.
Ability to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to patrons
and community members.
Ability to display a positive attitude for all patrons and Scarsdale Pool Complex staff.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manages their time and balance professional and personal commitments.
Arrives prepared and on time for work and consistently demonstrates service excellence.
Able to assess a situation and make an informed decision independently.
Ability to work as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff and management
Pay rate: $17 per hour.
40 hours per week.
Candidates must be available for Scarsdale's entire Day Camp season
(Monday through Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm from July 1st- August 2nd.)
