SCHEDULE 10-month position, full-time

SUPERVISES Lower School Chaplain

COMPENSATION $75,000-$120,000 based upon various factors, including education, credentials, and experience.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB

The Chaplain is the spiritual leader and main pastoral presence of the school community, providing spiritual support to the SAES students and faculty and epitomizing the school’s Episcopal identity. The Chaplain’s duties are diverse and include leading worship, teaching religion classes, offering pastoral care, and overseeing community outreach and service learning. In addition, the Chaplain works collaboratively with the faculty to support students’ spiritual development, character development, social and emotional learning, and physical and mental wellness.

Requirements

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

· Worship 

· Plan, organize, and lead weekly Middle School chapel service and weekly All-School chapel service that are joyful, developmentally appropriate, and reflect the mission and values of the school.

· Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and welcoming of all faith traditions in worship services

· Coordinate a high level of student participation in worship services

· Plan, organize, and if a priest, should lead monthly school Eucharist services.

· Lead opening prayers at all major school events, including evening and weekend events.

· Pastoral Care

· At Saint Andrew’s, pastoral care involves a wholehearted approach to supporting and enhancing spiritual and character development, social and emotional learning, and mental wellness.

· Collaborate with key personnel and school leadership to lead pastoral care services across the school community in order to ensure the implementation of the school’s mission.

· Offer pastoral counseling services to students, families, faculty, and staff as needed. Such services may include (but are not limited to) crisis counseling, grief work, and other assistance.

· Lead periodic parent education activities related to pastoral care.

· Be a pastoral presence across campus throughout the school day as much as possible.

· Support student events and activities, including after school, evening, and weekend events.

· Serve as a member of the DEI Committee and other committees as directed by the administration.

· Teaching 

· Oversee a Middle School religion curriculum that reflects the mission, core values, and Episcopal identity of the school, and that increases the religious understanding of our students.

· Provide religious instruction by teaching Religion class for grades four through eight.

· Supervise Study periods as assigned for grades six through eight.

· Collaborate with key personnel to develop and teach periodic lessons during Study period and/or class meetings on topics including social and emotional learning, character education, digital citizenship, and mental health/wellness.

· Assist with grade level retreats and experiential learning trips, including chaperoning overnight trips, as assigned the administration.

· Service Learning

· Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the school’s Service Learning program and oversee program requirements

· Guide faculty in incorporating service learning into the Advisory program and subject area curricula.

· Cultivate and sustain parent and community partnerships in order to provide diverse service opportunities for all ages

· Engage the entire school community in the service learning program, including coordinating and communicating with students, faculty, parents and other volunteers.

· Plan and participate in off-site service opportunities for students, including working alongside students during outings.

· Lead the Middle School Service Club, including overseeing school service awards and The President’s Volunteer Service Awards.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

· Ordained Episcopal Priest, Ordained Lutheran Pastor, or Vocational Deacon or Lay Leader

· To be licensed in the Diocese of El Camino Real

· Bachelor/Master Degree in Divinity or a related field 

· Mandated Reporter Training

· TB Health Clearance

· Live Scan Background Check
