Position Title: Director of Staff Development 

Department: Health Center Training and Development

Supervisor: Director of Nursing

Salary Range: (DOE) $104, 000.00-$114,400.00

Arbol Residences Santa Rosa Senior Living is currently searching for a Director of Staff Development who is responsible for the development and implementation of the orientation program and on-going educational programs for all staff at Arbol Residences Santa Rosa Senior Living. The Director of Staff Development provides specific orientation for Health Center nursing staff.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Staff Development is responsible for the development and implementation of the orientation program and on-going educational programs for all staff at Arbol Residences Santa Rosa Senior Living. The Director of Staff Development provides specific orientation for Health Center nursing staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

(Other duties may be assigned).

  1. Plans, conducts and evaluates organized orientation and training programs for all newly hired employees which are scheduled on a regular basis.
  2. Plans the annual and monthly training program calendar in collaboration with other facility management team members.
  3. Plans and coordinates management training programs with guidance from the Director of Human Resources.
  4. Recruits instructors with expertise in the appropriate discipline to improve and develop skills of employees. Utilizes community resources for training programs.
  5. Assists in the planning and coordination of training programs for all departments within the facility to respond to identified problem areas, service quality or to teach new procedures or methods.
  6. Maintains appropriate training records and program materials as required by federal and state regulations.
  7. Provide specific orientation to Health Center nursing staff including completion of the clinical skills check-list.
  8. Monitors outcome of employee training sessions with regard to skills taught and session evaluations.
  9. Develops, maintains and upgrades the standards for policies and procedures for the Training and Development Department.
  10. Participates in the budget for Training and Development. Submits monthly variance reports to the Business Office.
  11. Serves on the Quality Assurance Committee, CQI Committee, Safety Committee and Infection Control Committee and other committees as assigned. 
  12. Coordinates the activities of students engaged in learning programs within the facility from various learning institutions.
  13. Schedules employee annual physicals and Tuberculosis screening and maintains records of same.
  14. Monitors/coordinates flu vaccination program for entire facility. 
  15. Conducts Infection Control studies and reports for quarterly QA.
  16. Verifies licensure of licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants upon hire and ensures that these licenses are current during employment in the facility.
  17. Assists in the effective operations of Arbol Residences Santa Rosa Senior Living. Participates in any relevant facility activities. Collaborates with other department managers in the development, management and operation of Arbol Residences Santa Rosa Senior Living.
  18. Assumes a proactive role in resolving resident issues & concerns related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  19. Provides input to PSST through personal observations and those of staff regarding changes in resident condition.
  20. Serves as member of Manager on Duty rotation and participates in Leadership Team Meetings.
  21. During emergencies or other natural disasters, may be required to report for duty as assigned by the Administrator or Executive Director and/or the Director of Nursing for the duration of the disaster.
  22. Functions under intense time pressure.
  23. Contributes to a positive, healthy, and safe working environment.
  24. Works as a member of the team.
  25. Gets along well with co-workers.
  26. Accepts change in a positive manner.
  27. Performs any other relevant duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED: PC computer, audiovisual equipment, other equipment utilized by facility and necessary for resident care.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  1. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Current licensure by the California Board of Registered Nursing required. Two years of training and development experience in long term care required; knowledge of Title 22 and OBRA regulations.
  1. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
  1. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic mathematical skills required.
  1. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to understand, follow and support established policies and procedures of the facility; ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately; ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments efficiently; ability to work effectively with minimum supervision; ability to adapt teaching to the situation and diversity of learners.
  1. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Current CPR certification. Computer literacy encouraged.Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Leadership, and teaching skills required. Understanding and empathy of the uniqueness of the needs of the elderly required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONSModerate standing, walking, talking, listening, grasping, reaching, balancing, stooping, keeling, crouching, smelling pushing, pulling. Must be able to assist in lifting and/or positioning residents weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Must be able to wear protective gloves to guard against body fluids. Must be able to distinguish fluid, food and body temperature.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate temperature with limited fluctuations. Potential for exposure to body fluids, and cleaning agents. Occasional contact with needles and other sharp objects.
