Law Office of Channe G. Coles is Hiring an Associate Attorney Near Santa Barbara, CA

We’re a Santa Barbara family law firm who is seeking a full-time associate attorney; those recently admitted to the Bar are encouraged to apply. Only those with a sincere interest in working in family law will be considered.

In addition to providing support to the managing attorney (mostly during training and for learning opportunities), the associate attorney will eventually manage their own caseload with the assistance of office staff and paralegals.

There are immediate opportunities for court appearances, to act as second chair on heavily litigated cases, attend settlement conferences, and to take/oppose depositions. We offer competitive pay for the area, a 401(k) plan, and other benefits. Compensation will be based on experience.

We strongly encourage a healthy work-life balance, including in the following ways:

  • Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm with a one-hour lunch—we don’t support working after regular business hours or on weekends unless absolutely necessary.
  • You are highly encouraged to utilize all of your paid time off.
  • We have several paid holidays, including Fiesta Friday.
  • When possible, we try to allow additional time off or the ability to work remotely around major holidays such as Christmas.
  • Although working remote might not be a possibility immediately upon hire, there may be room for it in the future.

Some work as an attorney is done independently, however, our attorneys and office staff work together to assist each other. We engage in regular office meetings to ensure cases are progressing and to work through the strategy of the case.

A qualified candidate must:

  • Be in good standing with the California State Bar or have a "pass" result from the Bar exam and meet all qualifications for admittance.
  • Have experience working in a law firm. Family law experience is preferred but not required. We will pay for some basic family law training/MCLE if necessary.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills
  • At minimum 1 year of experience in legal research, drafting, and writing. This experience can be as a law clerk, paralegal, intern, or an attorney.
  • Be organized, detail oriented, and be capable of properly managing tasks based on their time-sensitive nature.
  • Be able to adhere to deadlines.
  • Have a valid driver’s license—we handle cases in North and South Santa Barbara County and Ventura County.

If you are interested in this position, please submit your resumé, a cover letter including why you are interested in family law, requested salary, and a writing sample.
