We are looking for a meticulous and friendly phlebotomy technician to be responsible for the collection, storage, and testing of blood samples. The phlebotomy technician's responsibilities include drawing blood, conducting patient interviews, checking patients' vital signs, and transporting blood samples to the laboratory for testing. When working with medical teams, the phlebotomy technician may be responsible for checking patients' blood pressure and heart rate and updating patients' records.

Phlebotomy Technician Responsibilities:

• Attends mandatory in-service programs; attends staff meetings or reads and initials minutes.
• Accomplishes established goals timely.
• Maintains licensure/certification as appropriate.
• Maintains compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, as well as other regulatory programs and hospital policies and procedures. Serious about obligations and actions, takes ownership of tasks and completes assignments. Meets mandatory requirements (Compliance and Ethics training attendance, annual competency assessment, TB screening, annual reorientation, etc.) Successfully completes corporate compliance competency. Understands hospital PI methodology and is familiar with department PI indicators, data and action plans.
• Participates in hospital and department-specific performance improvement program, including, but not limited to data collection and information sharing.
• Understands responsibility as related to their position regarding National Patient Safety Goals and Core Measures.
• Is able to differentiate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Is able to list current PI Teams and their progress and their own responsibilities as related to their position.
• Is aware of Sentinel Event Alerts as related to their position.
• Knows safety strategies required by Leapfrog as related to their position.
• Brings errors, inefficiencies and inaccuracies to director or Charge Nurse’s attention with positive suggestions for improvement.
• Identifies and contributes to the implementation of methods for controlling department costs and maximizing efficiency.

Phlebotomy Technician Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or Associate Degree preferred
• Current CA Certified Phlebotomy Technician license required
• BCLS required
• 2-12 months' previous experience in an Acute care facility laboratory preferred with demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy on all age groups.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures preferred.
• Experience with computer based systems is preferred.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
