JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Family Service Advocate
DEPARTMENT: Head Start
SUPERVISED BY: Site Administrator or Teacher/Supervisor
STATUS: Non-Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Regular – Part Year
JOB SUMMARY: The Family Service Advocate is responsible for collaborating with families of Head Start children to identify interests, needs, and strengths. The Family Service
Advocates should be able to facilitate access to community services that are responsive to children and families’ needs. The Family Service Advocate will assist in recruitment, class room coverage enrollment file maintenance, data entry into Child Plus, and family engagement. The Family Service Advocate will ensure compliance of licensing laws and all funding source regulations. The Family Service Advocate will act in a professional manner at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in carrying out goals, policies and activities designed to implement family service outcomes and the Head Start Performance Standards.
2. Assist with activities to recruit Head Start eligible children for full enrollment.
3. Follow procedures to enroll eligible families and ensure all paperwork is complete and all documents are in the file within five days of enrollment.
4. Complete the Family Assessments and maintain ongoing Family Partnership documentation.
5. Input accurate information and maintain Child Plus information. Complete screenings on children (hearing, vision & growth assessment) within 10 days of enrollment.
6. Provide assistance, information, and support to families.
7. Accompany staff on home visits.
8. Report any suspected child abuse and/or neglect to the program's designated personnel.
9. Assist the center with maintaining 85% ADA and follow-up on children with high absenteeism
10. Work in partnership with other community agencies to improve services for families
11. Serve as a resource person for other staff in addressing family situations.
12. Provide opportunities for families to set goals in their Family Partnership Agreement and provide support to achieve these goals.
13. Assist and generate tracking of in-kind.

14. Participate in regularly scheduled Family Service trainings
15. Promote family engagement
16. Provide support and assistance to ensure parent meeting are conducted on a regular basis
17. Utilize technology to enhance capacity of agency.
18. Attend in-service training and other professional training opportunities
19. Must understand community action and is committed to agency culture; act as a role model.
20. Be a team builder and create positive morale.
21. Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
22. Understand the agency’s mission, strategic plan, goals, and measure.
23. Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance and demeanor at all times and exercise good health habits related to personal hygiene.
24. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Site Administrator/Teacher
Supervisor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPECTATIONS:
1. Associate Degree in Social Work or related field preferred.
2. Must have High School Diploma or GED.
3. Two years experience working within a social services agency or comparable program.
4. Must demonstrate knowledge of service agencies and available services within the communities we serve.
5. Must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
6. Must have computer experience and knowledge of all other office equipment.
7. Must have an understanding and awareness of the needs of low-income families.
8. Must have current certification in First Aid/CPR, Common childhood Illnesses and
Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention.

9. Willing to travel out-of-town and overnight for training.
10. Must have access to operational automobile on a daily basis, and proof of liability insurance.
11. Physical exam, background check, and pre-employment and random drug screen, as required.
12. Must have physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
