We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician, or equivalent. Dentistry experience is a plus. Must be skilled at blood draw, IV catheter, radiology, anesthesia, surgical prep, sterile technique, drug calculations, routine treatments such as bandaging and ear cleaning and client communication. Computer proficiency is a must. Employment type: full or part time

Busy small animal hospital in San Mateo is seeking a experienced, technology savvy veterinary technician to join our small veterinary family. You will not be micromanaged and need someone who takes initiative. BTW- cleaning is part of the job.

Required Skills:

• One year experience as a technician is preferred.
• Technology proficiency is a must.
• ACCURACY - mistakes happen but must learn and not repeat them.
• Must have a passion for animals and desire to help people.
• Strong work ethic: self-starter, punctual, neat appearance and attentive to detail.
• Ability to learn quickly and perform with calm confidence.
• Able to handle a hectic schedule with a cheerful and calm demeanor.
• Unafraid to discuss money and go over estimates with clients and be able to communicate warmly and assertively to manage multiple and competing priorities.
• You must be thick- skinned, yet compassionate.
• You must be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
• Have a continual desire to improve, to increase your knowledge, and work as a team.

Technician Skills:

• Place IV catheters, blood draws, perform and monitor anesthesia, dental procedures, lift 40lbs of patient, take x-rays and send to radiologist, in-hospital treatments, pet restraint, sedation and documentation, enter charges, fill prescriptions and enter discharge orders.
• Start appointments: take history & estimates, enter charges and write up record.
• Restock, order supplies, assist with laundry and other tasks.
• Clean treatment and surgery area at end of day.
