SHBHC New Gen is Hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor Near San Bernardino, CA

Substance Abuse Counselor must a Registered Drug and Alcohol Technician or CADC certified. The position will be AM Shift 8:00-4:30 Tuesday-Saturday.

POSITION SUMMARY This position assists the behavioral services staff by providing direct service to residents by implementing activity and rehabilitation groups.

Essential Position Duties

1. Plans and conducts both large and small psychoeducational groups, activity groups, and outings related to Substance Abuse and Dual Diagnosis independently but under the indirect supervision of the STP Clinical Director, STP Director and/or Assistant STP Director.

2. Meeting with residents upon admission. Explain treatment responsibilities, daily schedule, group attendance, and medication compliance, identify substance abuse as a barrier.

3. Works directly with residents to achieve highest level of functioning possible.

4. Maintains visual awareness of resident's physical and psychiatric limitation and insures the safety of residents at all times.

5. Keeps notified on condition of residents and treatment plan interventions by reading individual care plans, assault prevention plans and contracts. Follows program design in consequences and rewards.

6. Enlists the cooperation of nursing staff in participating in the structured substance abuse programming, as necessary.

7. Monitors resident's attendance at assigned groups and activities and maximizes resident participation through appropriate motivational techniques.

8. Assists nursing in managing resident's unstructured time and mealtime and for resident supervision coverage, when necessary.

9. Goes on outings as needed and scheduled as an incentive for resident behavior and education related to substance abuse programming and community reintegration.

10. Attends and actively participates in Treatment Team meetings if assigned.

11. Accurately documents in writing each resident interaction and response to activity and therapeutic groups in the individual medical record or on department forms.

12. Charts on each resident as assigned and trained via care plans and progress notes for all group attendance and 1:1 sessions. Ensures documentation is accurate, informative and descriptive of the resident's condition, care provided and resident's response to the care.

13. Coordinates 12 step panels for the recovery process

14. Provide resident counseling, group counseling, parenting classes, and anger management at least twice per week for all identified drug and alcohol track residents

15. Assists residents when asked in communicating needs or filling out concern or grievance forms.

16. Create a treatment plan and treatment goals for all residents identified for the program to assist in safe and effective discharge planning.

17. Follows safety guidelines and attends Safety and STP in-services per regulation.

18. Encourages a spirit of cooperation and teamwork with co-workers.

19. Attends mandatory in-services and facility/department meetings as required.

20. Participates in Professional Assault Response Training ® principles when necessary, i.e., verbal (de-escalation, active listening, calm talk, etc); physical escort, physical standing restraint, physical wall restraint, physical prone restraint; and mechanical soft and leather restraint.

21. Identifies, reports and responds to extreme behavior, such as verbal aggression, biting, hitting, kicking, throwing items (food, objects, bodily fluids), self-inflicted injuries, property damage, substance abuse, etc., in accordance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.

22. Ensures that all OSHA and safety standards are followed, as applicable to the position and in the business location or workplace in accordance with state and federal regulation. 23. Maintains safe and clean work area and adheres to location/company safety standards for the healthcare professional.

24. Complies with all Infection Control, Standard Precautions, and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional in accordance with state and federal regulation.

25. Adheres to location and department/company policy and procedures.

26. Adheres to established HIPAA confidentiality standards of patient/resident and client location information.

27. Performs all other tasks or duties as assigned.
