About Us

The Saint Joseph Symphony Society is a non-profit that manages and finances a symphony orchestra for residents of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas. We are dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of our community through exceptional symphonic performances and educational programs.

We play a leadership role in the arts community to foster a healthy cultural climate and make our region an attractive area in which to live. We provide musical opportunities to educate and motivate area residents of all ages to actively participate in music as a musician or concert-goer. We encourage volunteerism and broad-based financial support to involve the widest possible audience in the creation and enjoyment of symphonic music.

Role Description

This is a full-time role at Saint Joseph Symphony. The Managing Director reports to the President of the Board of Directors, works in tandem with the Music Director, and helps advise and implement logistics between artist staff of Orchestra Librarian and Personnel Manager. The Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing administrative staff and the daily operations of the symphony, including financial management, fundraising, marketing, and executing our strategic plan. This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that the Managing Director will primarily work on-site in Saint Joseph, MO, but will also have flexibility for remote work.

Minimum Qualifications

⦁ Strong leadership and management skills

⦁ Experience in financial management and budgeting

⦁ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

⦁ Ability to work collaboratively with the board, musicians, staff, and community partners

Desired Qualifications

⦁ Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans

⦁ Knowledge of fundraising strategies and grant writing

⦁ Experience in the music industry or arts administration is a plus

⦁ Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience

Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000 commensurate with experience
