RETAIL SALES ASSOCIATE
FLSA: Part-Time Non-Exempt
Reports to: Gift Shop Manager
General Summary:
The Retail Sales Associate will work under the direction of the Retail Sales Manager to aid in all retail sales of The Shrine Gift Shop and Kiosk. Priorities include sales, inventory, public relations, assist with promotions of the Gift Shop and Kiosk.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintains outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards.
  • Be a model of professional behavior and the Catholic faith.
  • Fosters a ministry-oriented, accountable work environment
  • Promotes a team environment and articulates The Shrine mission, purpose and vision with other staff and ensures that the mission is accomplished.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism and credibility with the diocesan staff, department heads, clergy, the public, and all who visit The Shrine and Mission through their knowledge, forthrightness and truthfulness, with a high focus on building effective and positive relationships.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned by the Retail Sales Manager or Executive Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior experience in retail merchandising is preferred
  • Must have a collaborative style; proven team builder with effective employee-relations skills.
  • Must be a be able to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith.
  • Familiarity and fluency with the use of technology and to creatively use technology in the area of operations, marketing and promotion
  • Ability to pursue this mission with energy, drive and a need to produce results, especially in the face of resistance or setbacks. Must be flexible, self-confident, assertive and persuasive.
  • Must be a goal-oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability, initiative, creativity and focus in a rapidly changing environment. Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to respect and value the cultural richness that makes up the Church and society and strives to celebrate commonalities and differences among various groups.
  • Proficient with information technology including Microsoft Office Suite and POS software.
  • Honors, respects, and cares for all people; displays cultural diversity awareness and sensitivity.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
