WHAT YOU'LL DO:  

The Billing Specialist plays a vital role in optimizing reimbursement by accurately billing and coding all provided services. This position entails correcting, finalizing, and submitting claims across various payer codes. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in processing diverse billing cases and possess a comprehensive understanding of billing procedures.

Compensation Dependent Upon Experience - 

$21.85 - $28.41 per hour

Requirements

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The successful candidate will be willing and able to: 

  • Perform billing duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Review patient encounters and documentation to accurately assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for billing purposes. 
  • Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payers.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims, denied claims, and rejected claims, and take appropriate actions to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure timely reimbursement. 
  • Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits for patients and communicate with insurance carriers to resolve coverage issues. 
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical staff, and administrative personnel to obtain missing or incomplete information necessary for billing and coding. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records, including patient demographics, insurance information, and billing transactions. 
  • Respond to inquiries via phone or email from patients, insurance companies, and other stakeholders regarding billing inquiries, statements, and payment arrangements. 
  • Stay informed about changes in billing regulations, coding guidelines, and reimbursement policies, and implement necessary updates to billing practices. 
  • Participate in training sessions, meetings, and quality improvement initiatives related to billing and revenue cycle management.

The successful candidate has:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in billing, preferably in a healthcare or FQHC setting. 
  • Proficiency in coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, CDT) and billing software applications. 
  • Strong understanding of healthcare insurance plans, reimbursement processes, and billing regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, etc.). 
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, staff, and insurance representatives. 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Certification in billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CPB) is preferred but not required 

 Additional Requirements

  • Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours.
  • If selected for an employment opportunity with Elica Health Centers, external hires must provide proof of immunizations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella & Tetanus), tuberculosis clearance, and proof of COVID-19 vaccination status* prior to their scheduled start date. Physical Requirements and Work Environment 

The work environment is characteristic of normal office conditions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or lift. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
