POSITION

MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST I

DEFINITION OF POSITION

Under supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor and/or the Director of
Facilities , Maintenance, and Operations will perform all maintenance needs, both preventive and corrective, and complete work requests for the District’s facilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Works in accordance with verbal and written instructions

Performs a variety of general level tasks in the building trades including, but not limited to carpentry, painting, plumbing electrical, locksmithing, heating and air conditioning, and mechanical

• Uses carpenter, electrical, plumbing, painting tools and equipment to perform general maintenance work on school buildings and equipment

Obtains costs of materials necessary to complete a work request

• Performs electrical maintenance and repair work which may include work on low voltage control systems
• Boards up broken windows
• Repairs leaks in roofs

Works with supervisor to prioritize assigned work requests Responds to routine maintenance and service requests*

• Cuts and installs window glass
• Cleans, maintains, and repairs tools and equipment used in maintenance and operations

Works in accordance with established safety standards Maintains thorough records related to work performed Schedules needed work assignments with school site administrator

• Assists with moving offices and/or classrooms as needed
• Operates vehicles and equipment in performance of assigned duties
• Other duties related to District needs as assigned by supervisor or District administratorPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential duties require, but are not limited to the following physical abilities (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation, with or without the use of aids):

• Sufficient vision to read printed materials, adjust focus, and perceive distances and depth
• Sufficient mobility to stoop, reach, climb, kneel and move about
• Use hands and fingers to feel and grasp
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Possess a valid California Driver’s license

• Fingerprint clearance prior to employment
• TB clearance prior to employment
• Pass a District physical upon employment
• Read, write and speak English at a level required to safely perform job duties

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios to practical situations

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Tools, materials, and standard practices of the major building trades applicable to the operations of the District, with an emphasis on any one of these

• Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes and regulations in trade area of emphasis
• School district maintenance department procedures and practices

Ability to: Follow verbal and written instructions

• Safely work around moving and mechanical equipment
• Plan, organize and prioritize own work to meet deadlines and accomplish assigned tasks within established timelines
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during performance of job duties
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Analyze and respond to emergency situations appropriately

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work is performed in warehouse, district office or school campus. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate .

EDUCATION

Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade (High School Diploma or GED)

Pay: $23.23 - $29.60 per hour
