The Opportunity As the Director of Hardware Engineering at InCharge Energy, you will lead a dynamic team responsible for driving innovation, quality, and seamless integration of our electric vehicle (EV) charging hardware products. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that our holistic product portfolio remains cutting-edge, meets market demands, and aligns with our customer-centric approach. A seamless integration of our products, which are mostly interacting via open protocols, is of utmost importance and will require attention to detail as well as strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. You will oversee both technical development and quality assurance activities, contributing to the success of our EV charging solutions.
The Director of Hardware Engineering will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
What You’ll DoProduct Development and Innovation:
  • Holistic Hardware Strategy: Co-Develop and execute a strategic vision for InCharge Energy’s EV charging hardware portfolio, including EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) and related accessories (e.g., cord retractors, connectors).
  • Microgrid Functionality: Explore solutions to enhance our EV chargers’ capabilities, enabling microgrid functionalities for grid resilience and energy optimization.
  • Connectivity and Interoperability: Drive efforts to ensure seamless connectivity between EV chargers, onsite IoT devices and InCharge's CMS, as well as interoperability with various vehicle models.
Quality Assurance (QA)
  • InControl Features Testing: Collaborate with the QA team to rigorously test InControl features in conjunction with EVSE. Ensure reliability, security, and optimal performance.
  • Firmware Testing and Release: Oversee testing and timely release of new firmware versions for EV chargers. Maintain backward compatibility and address any critical issues.
  • Integration Testing: Lead integration testing efforts for new hardware products within the InControl ecosystem. Validate seamless interactions across the entire system.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Investigate and resolve issues identified during testing or field deployment. Implement corrective actions and preventive measures.
Collaborate With
  • The members of the Technology Department (which you will be part of) to discuss technical concepts and refine and finalize requirements.
  • More specifically, the product team to collect requirements provide product expertise and documentation during the installation and sales processes.
  • The SW Engineering team on R&D and QA activities.
  • Internal stakeholders and suppliers that will build what you came up with.
Report On And Escalate
  • Weekly progress and status of product development and QA/RCA initiatives.
  • Technical issues, process hurdles and inefficiencies with exact description and improvement recommendations.
Your Experience And Capabilities
  • Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree
  • Experience in the power electronics, auto industry or other commercial-grade, high-reliability product development
  • Familiarity with microgrid concepts, IoT protocols, and vehicle-to-charger communication.
  • Experience with quality assurance processes, testing methodologies, and firmware release cycles.
  • A passion for quality and ensuring that world-class products are delivered according to the customer’s requirements.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable person with a strong service orientation and “do what it takes” attitude
  • An excellent ability to work with and communicate across cross-functional teams
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering field
  • Proven track record in engineering roles, preferably in the EV industry and specifically with EVSE
  • EV Charging-related norms and regulations knowledge
  • Experience in bringing technology products to market in a fast-paced environment
