Primary Purpose
To performs a variety of manual tasks in the construction, repair, maintenance, cleaning, and operation of the City’s public works systems.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the assigned Project Supervisor, and daily oversight of the assigned Crew Leader.
Important Duties
Education & Experience
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. At least eighteen (18) months of experience in the related maintenance of which some experience must be in the construction and maintenance of utilities mains. Experience in the operation of tractors, dump trucks, or comparable excavation equipment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Must be knowledgeable in the principles, procedures and equipment involved in the construction, maintenance, or repair of a variety of public utilities, roads, or other facilities. Must have the ability to read blueprints and be able to maintain manual and computerized records of replacement work and prepare report; Working knowledge of modern office procedures, ability to operate computers, and copiers; Answer phones as needed; Must be able to memorize and retain information; Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; Must have good time management skills; Must have good cognitive and analytical skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations; Must be able to quickly assess or judge situations and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.

Physical Demands
Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to lift 50 pounds above their head; Must be able to push, pull and carry 80 pounds.
Work Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environments with exposure to dust and pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather condition; Susceptible to safety hazards associated with working in and around high traffic volume; Works in confined places and awkward positions.
