Ironwood Consulting is Hiring a GIS Specialist I Near Redlands, CA

Ironwood consulting is looking for a GIS specialist I to work in a team environment supporting the GIS team. The role will support the development of both static (maps, data analysis) and dynamic (web maps and apps) deliverables for our environmental consulting services. The GIS specialist I will be responsible for following our data management strategy and coordinating work with the GIS team for our field biology and botany teams. Leveraging a cloud-based GIS, the specialist will work in cloud environments including virtual desktops (desktop GIS), file share, database and Enterprise GIS including ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the organization, management and design of geospatial and environmental datasets/databases to allow shared access across all GIS users within the organization.
  • Work with stakeholders in coordination with GIS Specialist II and the GIS Manager, to understand project needs and maintain company-wide GIS standards on all projects.
  • Format and generate a variety of GIS products including standard and custom maps and map series, charts, graphics, tables, and reports; use cartographic and design principles to include legends, insets, and reference information.
  • Learn about Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act compliance and ensure design figures meet these standards.
  • Receive direction and guidance for GIS production goals from the GIS specialist II and GIS manager.
  • Perform spatial analyses such as buffering, spatial overlays and distance/area calculations.
  • Organize and track project data, analysis, and mapping.
  • Learn about Ironwood’s ArcGIS online and ArcGIS Enterprise environments and use standard practices when using these systems.
  • Develop GIS database domains and schemas that adhere to client, agency, and other stakeholder protocols.
  • Utilize emerging GIS/CAD technologies and their application to improve efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, natural sciences, GIS, computer science or related field, or equivalent experience (see below)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience including geospatial technology and data visualization
  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
  • Experience using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, and ESRI FieldMaps
  • Familiar with GPS data collection and data management
  • Ability to develop report figure maps and data visualization graphics that communicate spatial information effectively
